The Srinagar-Kargil highway is likely to be opened for one-way traffic on Saturday, four days after heavy snowfall on Zojila Pass had led to its closure.

An official of Project Beacon that maintains the road to Ladakh, said snow clearance work was almost completed on Friday evening.

Muzafar Ahmed Shah, the in-charge superintendent of police for traffic, said if weather remained dry, the traffic would be allowed from Kargil towards Sonamarg on Saturday.

"There are some vehicles stranded on Kargil side and they would be allowed on Saturday. If possible after clearing Kargil traffic, vehicles from Sonamarg side will also be allowed,” Shah told Greater Kashmir.
