SSB man killed in Tral firing

A SashastraSeemaBal trooper was killed after militants Sunday night fired towards a Central Reserve Police Force camp in Midoora area of Tral, the police said.

The SSB man Vijay Kumar Mishra sustained bullet in his head and was evacuated to a nearby hospital, a police official said. He however later succumbed.

   

“Militants fired heavily on CRPF camp (180 battalion) at 8.30 PM. The CRPF men retaliated the attack by firing towards the militants, who however managed to escape,” an official said. 

Meanwhile, militants attacked an army patrolling party at Jangalnad area in southern Awantiporatownship on Sunday, the police said. However, there were no reports of any casualties in the incident. According to a police source, militants were hiding among trees and fired a few gunshots at the patrolling party of army’s 55 Rashtriya Rifles. The soldiers inside a vehicle retaliated by firing several shots, leading to a brief exchange of fire.  “The militants managed to escape, while forces launched searches to nab the attackers,” the source said. 

Meanwhile, militant outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) claimed the responsibility for Tral attack. In a statement to a local news agency GNS outfit’s spokesperson Muhammad Hassan said: “Army personnel Vinay Kumar was killed and several others were injured seriously in the attack.”
