Statements of army, police chiefs our moral victory: Geelani

Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani Monday termed the statements of the Army Chief General Bipin Rawat and State Police Chief S P Vaid as “open admission that India couldn’t break the resolve of Kashmiris by brute force.”

General Bipin had said that neither forces nor militants will achieve their goal through gun.

Hailing the people’s sacrifices, Geelani said, “The statements confirm our moral victory and illustrate that nation has upper hand. It is a victory mark for my suppressed and oppressed people.”

“The army chief should convey to New Delhi that people in Kashmir are firm and determined to follow their sacred freedom struggle despite all odds and won’t succumb to state sponsored pressure nor will they leave their goal midway or unaccomplished,” he added.

Geelani said, “Referendum is the only yardstick that can validate and confirm people’s aspiration about their political destiny and it will clear which way the wind blows.”

Geelani expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the veteran Jamaat e Islami leader Ghulam Muhammad Khirqa of Char-i- Shareef.

Meanwhile, a Hurriyat spokesman denounced continuous nocturnal raids by forces and arrests of youth in the length and breadth of Kashmir.

The spokesman denounced the detention of 17-year-old student Sajid Ahmad Bangroo in Bagander, saying, “He was subjected to physical torture and even his father Muhammad Shafi Bangroo was arrested during raids and police authorities are needlessly chasing his another son Aadil Ahmad.”
