Stray dogs injure 51 persons in Baramulla

A pack of stray dogs attacked and injured as many as 51 persons in north Kashmir’s Baramulla town on Tuesday. The injured including several women, were rushed to Baramulla district hospital, where they were provided the vaccine.

The incident happened during the wee hours on Tuesday after a pack of stray dogs attacked the pedestrians walking lanes and by lanes of Kantbagh and its adjoining areas.

“I was walking along with my friend when several dogs attacked us at Kantbagh. We rushed towards the highway and somehow managed to escape,” said Irfan Ahmad.

Scores of people were seen rushing injured men and women to the Baramulla district hospital, with blood oozing from their limbs. The hospital authorities were surprised to see such a huge number of dog bitten patients in a single day. Several attendants accompanying the injured complained that the hospital authorities did not have enough stock of vaccination.

However, the medical superintendent of Baramulla district hospital Dr Masood Ahmad said that despite “little shortage” of the vaccine, the hospital authorities purchased vaccine from the open market and did not let the patients suffer.
