Stray dogs on prowl in Kangan areas

The abundance of stray dogs has become a nuisance in several areas of Kangan in Ganderbal district, with people complaining to be feeling threatened by the menace.

According to locals, packs of stray dogs are seen near and in the main bus stand, other streets, and the lanes of the town here.

“The abundance of dogs has created a sense of fear among the people, especially the children. It has become a grave issue for the people now,” the locals of Gund tehsil said.

“In the past few days the dogs have attacked many persons here,” Haji Ghulam Rasool of Fraw in Gund tehsil said.

“The number of dogs is increasing day by day in the town and adjoining localities but the authorities pay no attention as if safety of the people is no concern to them,” a local said.

Dozens of people have been bitten by the stray dogs during last two months, locals said.

Locals alleged that the stray dogs are seemingly being brought from different parts of the city and dropped in rural areas during night hours.

The locals have urged the authorities to look into the issue.
