Streets lights installed 6 years ago, yet to light up

Streets lights installed at Kaloosa bridge in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district six years ago, are yet to be made functional.

Locals said the street lights were installed in 2013 whenthe bridge was inaugurated by then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and thrown openfor public movement. They said the lights were never made functional.

   

The locals said that the district administration has failedto make the lights functional even after being apprised several times.

“The Kaloosa Bridge falls within the municipal limits ofBandipora town, and is located just one kilometer from the districtheadquarters. But till date, no official has ever bothered to check whetherthese lights are functional,” the locals said.

Kaloosa bridge over Madhumati Nallah is one of the longestbridges in district Bandipora and connects Bandipora with Sopore, Baramulla andKupwara areas of north Kashmir.

The locals alleged that the streets lights have beenrendered useless after spending lakhs of rupees for their installation.

When contacted, additional district development commissionerBandipora, Muhammad Yousuf Mir said he would look into the matter as he hasrecently taken charge of ADDC Bandipora.
