Tarigami, Hakeem say will vote for Azad

“I have my own identity. Azad is my friend and has a secular character. I will vote for my friend (Azad)

With J&K’s four RajyaSabha seats going to polls on February 7, two key legislators from Kashmir, Muhammad Yusuf Tarigami and Hakeem Muhammad Yasin, Thursday said they will vote for Congress leader GhulamNabi Azad. MLA from Langate, ErAbdur Rashid, however, preferred silence over the issue.

“I will vote against BJP-PDP candidates. I will vote for Azad,” Tarigami, the legislator from Kulgam, told Greater Kashmir.

MLA Khansahib, Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen, also said “I will vote for Azad.”

“I have my own identity. Azad is my friend and has a secular character. I will vote for my friend (Azad),” he said. He, however, said his vote “should not be treated as a vote for Congress or National Conference.”

Er Rashid preferred silence over the issue.  “I am consulting my well wishers. I should not do something for which I would repent tomorrow. Let me take my time,” he said.

In a statement yesterday, Rashid had asserted that he doesn’t belong to the Third Front comprising Tarigami and Yaseen.

Azad is the joint candidate of Congress-National Conference and is contesting under the notification no 3.

Congress has its 12 legislators and NC 15. He shall, according to officials, require 29 votes to win the seat.

The BJP and PDP are fighting on two seats separately.
