A teacher was suspended over alleged molestation of a student in Kupwara district on Wednesday.
Reports said the teacher from Government Primary School Lilam had called a female student on Friday, at the time when staff and students had gone for prayers and subsequently taken her to a deserted room, where he tried to molest her.
However, the girl resisted the teacher’s advances and raised an alarm attracting attention of some nearby students, who rushed to save her.
The accused teacher has been identified as Hilal Ahmad.
Taking cognizance of the matter, the accused teacher has been suspended from his duties.
Confirming the development, CEO Kupwara Shafiq Nabi Var said: “We have placed the teacher under suspension. The inquiry has been initiated to probe the incident”.
Meanwhile, locals have demanded stern action against the accused teacher.
