Thousands attend last rites of Nadihal youth killed in BSF firing

Thousands of people on Tuesday took part in the last rites of class 11th student Ubaid Manzoor who died of critical injuries sustained after BSF opened fire on a group of youth fifteen days ago in Nadihal village of Rafiabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

On June 25, BSF trooper opened fire during clashes in the area during a shutdown called by the separatist leadership against what they called “planned genocide” of Kashmiri youth. Ubaid was critically injured in the firing by the forces, following which he was shifted to SKIMS Soura fr specialized treatment.

   

However, he succumbed at the hospital today morning.

As soon as his body reached Nadihal, people in thousands started reaching there to take part in his last rites and offer condolences to the bereaved family.

The family members and relatives sobbed as Ubaid’s body arrived at his home in a casket draped with a green flag. The body was then taken to a local ground where thousands offered the funeral prayers.

Mourners raised pro-freedom slogans as the body was marched towards the graveyard.

A complete shutdown is being observed in Nadihal to mourn the killing.
