Thousands march with bodies of two slain militants, civilian in Srinagar

Thousands of people on Wednesday marched with the bodies of two militants and the civilian killed in a gunfight with the forces in Fateh Kadal area of downtown Srinagar.

An eye witness said that the bodies of Lashkar militants Mehraj ud Din Bangroo and Faid Mushtaq Waza and the house owner’s son Rayees Ahmad were interred at the martyrs’ graveyard in Eidgah where thousands of people participated in the funeral prayers.

He said the bodies were marched to Eidgah in a huge procession amid pro-freedom sloganeering. Women were seen wailing and beating their chests as the bodies were marched towards the Eidgah.

Police have said that Ahmad was an active accomplice of the militants and that he refused to come out of the house when the gunfight broke out today morning. A spokesman said they were investigating his role.
