Jammu and Kashmir police Sunday detained an alleged timber smuggler under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA), here in Sopore district.
The police said, “On June 4, 2019, District Magistrate,Baramulla, had issued a warrant under PSA against one Ashraf Ganai, a timbersmuggler who was active in the Kandi forest range. He has been booked underseveral cases.”
IrfanRasool, Conservator of Forests, North Kashmir, said,”Ganai is a habitual offender. He continued to be involved in smuggling evenafter we warned him several times. In the end, we were left with no otheroption but to present our case before the District magistrate for his detentionunder PSA.”
