Top Al-Badr commander Zeenat-ul-Islam among two militants killed in Kulgam gunfight

Top Al-Badr commander Zeenat-ul-Islam was killed along with an associate in a gunfight with the government forces in Yaripora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday.

Sources told Greater Kashmir that Islam who was earlier affiliated with Hizb ul Mujahideen was killed in the gunfight along with an associate in the gunfight that broke out in Katpora village following a search operation launched by a joint team of army’s 34 RR, SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF today evening.

   

However, there was no official confirmation so far.

Quoting an army officer, news agency GNS said that a group of militants opened fire on the forces to escape from the cordon. The forces retaliated, triggering off a brief gunfight.

“In the gunfight which lasted for some time in an open field, two militants were killed and the operation has been suspended as of now in wake of darkness,” the officer said, according to GNS.

He said that the bodies are visible, lying on the ground near the gunfight site and are yet to be recovered.

The second slain militant has been identified as Shakeel Ahmad Dar alias Faisal of Chilipora, Shopian.
