Traders, transporters protest against levying of toll tax in south Kashmir

Scores of traders and transporters on Wednesday staged a protest outside the office of Deputy Commissioner Anantnag in south Kashmir against the imposition of toll tax by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

Tradersaffiliated with All Traders and Manufacturers Association Anantnag andtransporters from Sumo Stand Union Janglatmandi, Bus and Matador Associationssubmitted a joint memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Anantnag demanding animmediate rollback of the decision to levy toll tax, reported news agency GNS.

   

Theprotesters said that the exemption of the tax from the people living within 20kilometers radius was futile and all people from Jammu and Kashmir should beexcluded from the purview of toll imposition.

Thetoll is being collected by the NHAI at the toll Post Kachkoot Fee Plaza inSangam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
