The traffic movement on 434-km Srinagar-Leh highway was restored on Friday afternoon after it was yet again suspended in the morning following fresh landslides near Zojila pass.
The highway was reopened on Thursday after an overnight closure after landslides occurred at several places on Wednesday evening. However, the road was closed on Friday morning again after fresh landslides.
Captain Shubham Sood of Border Roads Organisation told Greater Kashmir that the road got blocked at few places after fresh landslides occurred, adding that the slides were cleared and the road was partially opened to clear stranded vehicles. “We are working day and night to clear the road of the landslides which are large,” he said.
Superintendent of police traffic rural Muzafar Ahmed Shah who was also monitoring the road clearance work told Greater Kashmir that it was tough for BRO to clear the road as the landslides were massive, adding that it will take at least a day for full road clearance because of the major slides.
