Traffic movement on Sgr-Leh highway restored

The traffic movement on 434-km Srinagar-Leh highway was restored on Friday afternoon after it was yet again suspended in the morning following fresh landslides near Zojila pass.

The highway was reopened on Thursday after an overnightclosure after landslides occurred at several places on Wednesday evening.However, the road was closed on Friday morning again after fresh landslides.

   

Captain Shubham Sood of Border Roads Organisation toldGreater Kashmir that the road got blocked at few places after fresh landslidesoccurred, adding that the slides were cleared and the road was partially openedto clear stranded vehicles. “We are working day and night to clear the road ofthe landslides which are large,” he said.

Superintendent of police traffic rural Muzafar Ahmed Shahwho was also monitoring the road clearance work told Greater Kashmir that itwas tough for BRO to clear the road as the landslides were massive, adding thatit will take at least a day for full road clearance because of the majorslides.
