Tral gunfight: Militant's body recovered, searches on

The identity of the slain militant was yet to be ascertained, said the official, adding that a sniper rifle has been recovered from the gunfight site.

Government forces on Tuesday recovered the body of a militant from the site of the gunfight in Tral region of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, even as searches were underway to look for more bodies, officials said.

Earlier, reports said that exchange of fire stopped at the site of the gunfight after the forces detonated the house in which the militants were trapped in Chankitar village.

An official said that the body of a militant has been recovered from the site of the gunfight. "The searches are on to look for more bodies," he said.

The identity of the slain militant was yet to be ascertained, said the official, adding that a sniper rifle has  been recovered from the gunfight site.

The gunfight broke out in the village today afternoon after the forces launched a cordon-and-search-operation in the area.

Three militants were believed to be trapped inside the house.
