Two CRPF men killed in a drive-by shooting

Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed in a drive-by shooting by militants in the Achabal area of Anantnag on Friday. The attack that took the paramilitaries by surprise also left another trooper and a local shopkeeper wounded. 

A police official said that at around 12:15 in the afternoon the vehicle-borne militants fired upon road opening party at main chowk Achabal, barely 10 kilometers from Anantnag town. The slain troopers were identified as ASI ML Meena, and constable Sandeep.

   

The injured civilian was identified as Ghulam Nabi Lone of Achabal. “He had bullet injury in abdomen and was operated upon,” a doctor at district hospital told Greater Kashmir.

Soon after the attack, police, CRPF and army cordoned off the area and launched searches to nab the attackers. Meanwhile, Lashkar said its men had carried out the attack on the CRPF party. 

Later in the day, militants fired on theYaripora police station in Kulgam district in the late afternoon. There were no fatalities in the attack and the policemen stationed there fired back on the militants, forcing them to retreat.
