Two LeT militants killed in Anantnag gunfight

Two militants were killed in a gunfight with the government forces in Anantnag town of this south Kashmir district on Wednesday.

A senior police official said two bodies of the militants have been recovered from the site of a gunfight in Mehmaan mohalla of Anantnag town.

“Firing has stopped. A search operation is on,” said the official.

He identified the slain militants as Adil Bhat of Sozan Kishtwar and Bin Yamin alias Bilal moulvi of Ghat Khudwani.

Earlier, police said that two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants were trapped in the gunfight that raged since early morning.

An official said that forces launched a cordon-and-search-operation in the area following inputs about the presence of militants.

“As the forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering a gunfight,” he said.

Internet was shut in Anantnag district while train service was suspended across south Kashmir in view of the gunfight.

An eye witness said that the forces blasted the house in which the militants were trapped.
