Two militants killed in Shopian gunfight; searches underway

Two militants were killed in a gunfight with the government forces in Kundalan village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday.

A police source confirmed that two bodies were recovered from the site of the gunfight in Kundalan.

   

Their identity is being ascertained, he said, adding that a search operation is underway.

Earlier, at least twenty youth were injured during clashes with the government forces in the village.

Reports said that youth took to streets and hurled rocks at the forces deployed in the village following a gunfight.

The forces responded by firing live ammunition, pellets and tear gas to chase away the protesters.

Also two army men, including an officer, were wounded in the ongoing gunfight with the militants.
