Two militants killed in Sopore gunfight, bodies recovered

Two militants were killed in a gunfight with the government forces in Teliyan Arampora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday.

An army officer said that two militants were killed in the operation at Taliyan Mohalla area of Arampora, Sopore.

   

He said the bodies of both the militants were recovered from the site of the gunfight.

Earlier, a joint team of army’s 22RR, SOG and CRPF laid a siege in the area following specific information about the presence of some militants late last night.

SSP Sopore Javid Iqbal earlier said that the gunfight broke out after the hiding militants lobbed a grenade and opened fire on a search party.

“Searches are still going on in the area,” said an official, adding that the slain were identified as Ali @ Athar & Zia-ur-Rehman of Jaish-e-Muhammad militant outfit.

Internet was suspended and educational institutions closed in Sopore as a “precautionary measure,” he added.
