‘Protest highlighted Machil fake encounter, police had no role’

Srinagar, June 4: A day after Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, claimed that JK Police exposed Machil fake encounter, the Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Friday ridiculed his claim saying, “We have countless incidents where troops killed people and police didn’t even register an FIR.”
“Person who gave details about Machil fake encounter was threatened by the  personnel of the Special Operations Group of police for opening his mouth. The matter got highlighted due to protests. Police did not play any role.” Mirwaiz told Greater Kashmir.
On Chief Minister’s statement that there was no possibility of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh talking to separatists during his upcoming Kashmir visit, the Mirwaiz said, “The fact is that the state governments have had little to do with dialogue processes in Kashmir. When we were engaged in dialogue with New Delhi from 2004-2007, there were track II diplomats and interlocutors, but state government was never involved.”
Referring to Dr Singh’s upcoming Kashmir visit on June 7, Mirwaiz said, “Let us see what the PM has to offer to Kashmiris. We have made it clear that violence and peace process can’t go together. Let us see what he has to say about zero tolerance on human rights violations.”
