The people in the town have urged the district administration to initiate steps to clean the choked drains.
Locals said that the main sewer along Tehsil road Baramullais blocked since last several months, with the result the filth accumulated inthe drain has started to float on to the national highway, besides raisingstink.
“The water of several other sewers passes through this maindrain. The choked drain has made our life miserable” said Fayaz Ahmad, ashopkeeper on Tehsil road Baramulla. “During the moderate rainfall, drain waterenters our shop and it takes us half the day to drain it”.
He said the sweepers deposit the garbage from the road intothe drain which further blocks the flow.
Another shopkeeper Altaf Hussain blamed the choking on theclosed drain along the national highway. “The drain has not been cleaned ever since it was constructed. How canauthorities construct a drain by closing its exit? The authorities must holdthe executing agency responsible and take measures to make the drain useful”said Hussain.
