Unidentified militant killed in Handwara

Government forces on Thursday killed a suspected unidentified militant in Batapora village of Magam area in Handwara, police said. 

A police statement said the slain militant was likely a Pakistani and belonged to Lashkar-e-Toiba group.  

   

“On the basis of the incriminating materials recovered, the killed terrorist is learnt to be a foreigner (Pakistani national) and was affiliated to the proscribed terror outfit LeT,” a police statement said.

On receiving information about presence of militants in the forested area of Magam, government forces launched a search operation Thursday afternoon.

Police said a security forces patrol came under fire which was retaliated, sparking an armed exchange in which the militant was killed and his body retrieved from the site of the encounter.

“No collateral damage was witnessed during the encounter,” the police statement said. 

“Some arms and ammunition were also recovered from the encounter site.”
