Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) chairman Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai onThursday said that United States canplay very critical role in not only de-escalating confrontation between Indiaand Pakistan but in resolving Kashmir issue as well.
“The world, including the US is well aware of the danger theKashmir dispute poses to world peace and to the stability in the region. Wewish to see progress towards the resolution of the Kashmir dispute which is thebiggest hurdle in the way of peace and development in the region. The wholeworld, including the US, is fully aware of this reality,” he said in astatement.
Sehrai said, “Kashmir stands out as a potential nuclearflash point between the two countries which will consume the lives of millionsof people in an instant. Allowing this dangerous political conflict to festernot only endangers the security of the people of the entire region but alsoundermines their future by compromising on their interest and well-being.”
“How long will the two countries hold the prosperity andsecurity of their people and the region hostage to their hostility and rivalry?If they reject talks how will they engage, do they have an alternative?” heasked.
Sehrai appealed to the leadership in India and Pakistan tochange course and move forward peacefully. “They have to take difficultdecisions which are urgently needed to shape a better course for the futuregenerations of India and Pakistan and the tormented people of Jammu andKashmir,” he said.
