Village near LoC without electricity for 3 months

A village near Line of Control in Karnah is without electricity since February this year when the transformer supplying electricity to it developed a snag.

Residents of Kandi Bala village have appealed for attentionof the authorities saying no one from the Power Development Department hasbothered to have the defunct transformer repaired, leaving them in darkness forover three months now. 

   

 “The authorities knowthat no one is going to take any action against them for miseries inflicted onus due to absence of electricity, that is why they are yet to repair thetransformer,” said Ashiq Ahmad, a local resident.

Kandi Balla is close to the heavily militarized Line ofControl and its residents say they have travel more than a kilometer forcharging their mobile phones and batteries.

For over three months now the villagers have been usingkerosene lamps and candles even during the ongoing month of Ramadhan.

“We are living in the 21st century. We are still stuck inthe ancient era. In this holy month we are forced use kerosene lamps andcandles during Iftaari and Sehri time,” said Abass Ahmad, another villager.

Assistant Executive Engineer in charge of the area, AshrafAhmad, did not respond to repeated calls from this reporter.
