Village without potable water for 35 yrs

The residents of Tujar, Sopore facing water scarcity as a water tank supposed to be built under Water Supply Scheme Shalpora Tujar is pending for the past two years.

“We have been devoid of drinking water facility for 35 years. To suffice our needs, we get water tankers filled 8 kilometers away from Tujar,” said Riyaz Ahmad Lone of Tujar.

   

He said that the women of their locality wander from home-to-home in search of drinking water.

Rafiqa Begum, a resident of Tujar, said as she gets water pots filled early morning, she is not able to prepare her kids before leaving for school.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, Executive Engineer PHE, Sopore, GhulamRasoolLaharwal said, “The construction of the water supply scheme was stopped due to COVID-19 and the work will resumed in March.”
