Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra attended the first meeting of NITI Aayog headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
The Governor, who was invited to attend the first meeting of the Governing Council of the NITI Aayog, took up some key issues facing the state, sources said.
Earlier Governor held extensive discussions in the state to “identify the contours of the State Government’s approach to the proposed operational framework of the Aayog” which has been constituted to replace the erstwhile Planning Commission.
The Governor held discussions with Principal Secretary, Planning & Development B R Sharma and Principal Secretary, Finance B B Vyas.
“The meeting highlighted special concerns of Jammu and Kashmir particularly in context of the huge resource gap in funding the annual plans and the need for long-term planning for balanced development of the State,” an official spokesman had said. “It was felt that any strategic planning for J&K’s development should factor in the availability of State’s natural resources and skill sets with innovative and sustained capacity building efforts to harness its full potential.”
The meeting emphasised the need for imparting the requisite flexibility to the State for meeting its requirements while undertaking any planning exercise.
