Dozens of residents from Wachi area of Shopian district held protests here on Thursday accusing authorities of deliberately depriving them from degree college already sanctioned by the government.
The residents who assembled at press colony said that the college was sanctioned to Zainapora and Wachi. “But we don’t understand why authorities are giving it to Reshipora who don’t want it due to unavailability of land, they (Reshipora residents) even went to court of law to bring stay but still authorities are hell-bent to deprive us from college,” said Mohammad Shabaan, a Wachi resident.
The residents said that the degree college was initially sanctioned to Zainapora and Wachi but due to unavailability of land in Zainapora, Wachi was the only proposed site for college.
“We have state land of around 80 kanals and as per requirements our Wachi locality fulfills every requirement, we don’t understand why they are giving it to Reshipora area, our students have to travel more than 20 kilometers for nearest college and still authorities are taking the issue casually,” said Ali Mohammad, another resident.
The aggrieved residents said that officials visited Wachi for the assessment of proposed site but they are failing to understand why they are still being deprived from the educational instruction.
The residents said from last year they are going from pillar to post in order to solve their issue but they are receiving a cold shoulder from authorities.
“Other than promises from higher officials, we are receiving nothing,” the protesting residents said.
They appealed the state governor for intervention into the matter so that they don’t have to suffer any more.
