Waskhura-Handwara road in shambles

Residents of Waskhura village here on Monday accused authorities of failing to repair the road connecting the area to the main town.

Residents said the road was dotted with potholes which makes the journey a back-breaking exercise. Abdul Qayoom a resident said Waskhura was located just 1.5 km from the main town. “Still we have been deprived of basic amenities. From drinking water to road connectivity, we are lagging behind,” he said.

Another resident Farooq Ahmad Dar said at a time when the authorities were either repairing the roads or macadamising them their village has been one again neglected. “We have taken up the issue at different levels with the authorities, but nobody is ready to address our grievances,” he said. The locals appealed to the higher authorities to direct the department concerned to macadamize the road to provide relief to the people.

Executive Engineer, R&B division Handwara, Muzafar Khalid said they have taken note of the grievance. “We will soon go for grading of the road and if weather permits it will be macadamised in the days to come,” Muzafar said.
