The snowfall and incessant rains have led to water logging of many streets in Sopore town causing inconvenience to public movement.
The commercial areas like Iqbal market, down town and college road are the worst hit as the pedestrians and vehicles were seen navigating through the waters. “The situation has worsened due to faulty drainage system in the town and its adjacent areas,” a local resident Mohd Shaffi said. “Roads and streets have turned into ponds.”
Similarly scores of residents of Saidpora Sopore on Monday staged a protest against irrigation department for failing to repair the blocked and damaged drainage in their area since years. The aggrieved protesters said due to the past two days of snowfall and heavy rains, massive water logging in streets and their residential houses has taken place. At some places the water has even entered houses.
The residents have appealed LG and District administration to dewater the affected lanes and bylanes.
