In 2012, taking cognisance of Greater Kashmir reports about BOPPEE scam, the High Court had appointed senior advocate Bashir Ahmad Bashir as amicus curie to assist the court.

Delivering the landmark judgment in the paper-for-cash scam, special anti-corruption judge Kashmir (Srinagar) Yash Paul Bourney Wednesday said the scam would not have seen the light of day if then Chief Justice MM Kumar’s had not pursued it relentlessly.

In 2012, taking cognisance of Greater Kashmir reports about BOPPEE scam, the High Court had appointed senior advocate Bashir Ahmad Bashir as amicus curie to assist the court.

The HC treated the GK reports as a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) and ordered registration of an FIR into the matter.

Advocate Bashir acted as amicus curie before court till the completion of the investigation and filing of charge sheet.

Expressing satisfaction over the verdict, advocate Bashir said: “It is a welcome judgment having far reaching consequences and will serve a deterrent against corrupt officials who ruin careers of meritorious students.”
