Srinagar, Dec 10: PDP candidate from Amirakadal constituency Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari Wednesday said PDP will reciprocate the faith people of the State have reposed in the party during the ongoing assembly elections.
Addressing a party convention at Mehjoor Nagar, Bukhari said the massive public support in favor of PDP is a result of a unique model of governance provided by the party during brief period between 2002 and 2005. He said having emerged as a strong regional force PDP is committed to take the state to new horizons of peace and prosperity in coming years.
He said Amirakadal constituency deserves the best sanitation, road connectivity, healthcare, drainage system, scientific disposal of solid wastes, schooling facilities, network of street lights and recreational facilities for the children and the youth.
Speaking on the occasion, senior PDP leader and former minister Muhammad Dillawar Mir said under NC-Congress coalition, development in JK witnessed huge setback. He said no significant infrastructure was raised in the state during the past six years. “The devastating floods have added to this massive challenge ahead for PDP. Our party has to start reconstruction and rebuilding of the whole city particularly Amirakadal constituency which was hit the most,” Mir stressed.
PDP chief spokesman Naeem Akhtar while addressing the convention said the last three phases of polls have indicated that NC and Congress have been pushed to oblivion due to “their inept governance, rampant corruption, nepotism and malpractices.”
Akhtar said while NC traded JK’s constitutional position, its natural resources and the people’s aspirations for power; Congress has been a involved in corruption, land grabbing, scams, scandals and Afzal Guroo’s hanging.
Terming Amirakadal constituency the heart of Srinagar, Akhtar said during the past six years, the area has been craving for government attention but NC-Congress coalition government didn’t pay any heed to the miseries of its inhabitants. “The construction of Jehangir Chowk-Natipora flyover is going on a snail’s pace and the lack of planning has resulted in a traffic mess in the area. Similarly in all other areas of basic amenities, the government has neglected this prime constituency which should have by now emerged as a model constituency in the entire state,” Akhtar remarked.
