Woman gets 2 yrs in jail for forgery: Court suspends sentence for 6 months on humanitarian grounds

A court sentenced a woman to two years in jail for forgery and acquitted her maternal uncle of all charges.

The woman had been accused of forging a certificate and producing it before authorities to seek admission in class 11. The prosecution said she had never passed class 10 examination.

However, the court suspended the sentence of the convict for next six months on humanitarian grounds, observing that she is a housewife and her son is suffering from brain tumor. The court also considered her past clean record to suspend the sentence.

The court also did not find her guilty of cheating and criminal conspiracy, citing lack of evidence. The Crime Branch had investigated the case.
