The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Friday said that the age-old practice of women carrying cow dung to the fields in baskets on their heads is degrading.
Taking cognisance of the age-old practice, the commission urged the government to come up with their views on the issue.
“The practice in degrading the women folk in particular and the humans ingeneral,” the SHRC said in a handout.
It observed that the practice shouldn’t be allowed.
“Before hearing, interested individual/groups, the commission would liketo know the opinion of the government and directed the Divisional Commissioner,Kashmir to apprise the commission about the views of the government and generalpublic so that final view is taken by the commission,” reads the handout.
SHRC said that only after the views of the government and public aresubmitted by the concerned official then only the commission can make suitablerecommendations.
