Work for restoration of peace in J&K: NC to Governor’s admin

Questioning decision of Governor’s administration to go ahead with civic bodies’ polls in J&K despite boycott by regional parties National Conference on Wednesday asked the administration to work for restoration of peace in the state.

Party general secretary Mustafa Kamaal said on one hand Governor Satya Pal Malik acknowledges that people are angry with the system and on the other hand such decision are being taken which would only add to alienation and anger.

“What does the Governor’s administration want to prove by holding local bodies’ election despite boycott by regional parties?. These polls are meaningless in absence of peoples’ participation,” said Kamaal.

He said the administration should work for restoration of peace and development of the state. “The administration should perform its duty with transparency. Certain parties are interfering in administrative functioning in the state,” said Kamaal.

He said the local parties decided to stay away from the polls after New Delhi refused to clear its stand on Article 35A and instead additional solicitor general Tushar Mehta who was representing state in the Supreme Court in the case himself raised question over Article 35A.

Meanwhile the party reiterated its resolve of upholding the states dignity by fighting forces who have announced an all out attack on states special status.

Addressing the Party’s monthly South Zone Committee Meeting at Khanabal, the NC South Zone President Dr Bashir Veeri said, “The present dispensation both at the center and the state doesn’t seem to be interested in protecting the states special status. All they seem to be interested in is on holding elections irrespective of who participates in them. Holding elections in such circumstances, wherein states premier political parties have in unison asked for protection of Art 35 A, is nothing but murder of democracy.”

Castigating those who are hell bent in enforcing local body elections on people of the state, Dr Veeri said, “There are people in the state whose sole aim is to enjoy power and for that they will barter states dignity as well. We will not allow that to happen. We will fight them come what may and will safeguard states special status with all our might and defeat the forces hellbent to erode states special status.”
