Workshop on clubfoot treatment held

CURE International India Trust (CIIT), J&K, Saturday held a day-long workshop at SKIMS Medical College hospital, Bemina here to train doctors in treatment of clubfoot.

Noted orthopaedic surgeons Dr Mathew Varghese and Dr AnilMehtani delivered lectures and showed on spot demonstrations to raise awarenessamong participant doctors in effectively treating the clubfoot.

   

“Today was the fourth refresher training on Ponsetimethod of clubfoot management and we ran the programme in collaboration withSKIMS,” said Rubia Hamid, State Programme Coordinator (CIIT) J&K.”Our experts Dr Mathew Varghese and Dr Anil Mehtani spoke about spectrumof clubfoot deformity, Ponseti Method and Pirani clubfoot score, besidesholding practical sessions like casting on rubber foot models, practice scoreson patients and casting on patients under supervision.”  

The CIIT runs its programme in J&K with a goal toeradicate disability caused by clubfoot. Currently it runs six clinics in thestate. “We have over 1200 children enrolled with us in the entire state towhom we are providing free treatment, besides free braces to the children withdeformity.” Hamid said.

The District Programme Coordinator Anantnag said at districtlevel Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) refers patients to their clinicand provides them free of cost plaster. “The credit for successfullyrunning the programme goes to RBSK and doctors,” the DPC said.
