World Environment Day-2019 |‘United efforts need of the hour to protect environment’

Advisor to Governor K Vijay Kumar today underscored the need for united efforts for protection of environment.

TheAdvisor made the remarks while addressing a gathering, especially the students,participating in the World Environment Day-2019 celebrations, being organizedby Department of Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing.

   

The theme of this year’s World Environment Day was “Beat AirPollution”.

WhileFinancial Commissioner Finance Arun Mehta was the guest of honor on theoccasion, Commissioner Secretary Forest MK Dwivedi, Chairman JKPCB Ravi Kesar,Director EE&R B Sidhartha Kumar, CCF Kashmir Farooq Gillani, MD JKSFC VasuYadav and other senior officers of Forest and its allied departments andstudents were present during the celebrations.

While discussing thepresent alarming situation, Kumar said, “In the name of development, we havecaused great damage to environment and have paid heavily for tampering with thenature. Because of our actions, we are experiencing drastic change in theclimate and temperature is increasing day by day causing danger to entire humanpopulation.”

He appealed to people especially youth to activelyparticipate in the initiatives undertaken to protect environment and make thisworld more beautiful. He urged youth to play important role by becoming leadersin community in making people aware about consequences of the human actionsthat are threatening nature and environment.

Speaking on the occasionArun Mehta also raised the concern saying that “we are threatening and damagingwhat has created us”. “One cannot deny the fact that we are facing environmentcrisis and we are in the middle of mass extinction where large number ofspecies are getting die these days,” he said.

DirectorEE&R B Sidhartha Kumar said that the World Environment Day was the UnitedNation’s principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for protectionof the environment.

LaterKumar also distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions heldduring week long celebrations here. Two publications of Ecology, Environment& Remote Sensing department were also released by Advisor Kumar on theoccasion.
