WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATED IN J&K

To mark the’World Environment Day’, Army at Salamabad Uri organised a series of programmes for school children and stakeholders and took the opportunity to broaden the basis for an enlightened opinion and responsible conduct by individuals and communities in preserving and enhancing the environment by raising awareness.

The event saw the participationof four schools of Bela Salamabad which was joined by locals and variousstakeholders to include Sarpanches, Forest Range Officer and Zonal EducationalOfficer, an Army spokesman said in a statement.

   

“To spread the awarenessabout the importance of the day among Awaam, school children along with schoolstaff participated in the awareness rally carrying banners and posters tospread the message. Thereafter, to highlight the sensitive issue ofenvironment, a Tree Plantation Drive was carried out where each studentparticipated and contributed fondly. Even the locals and stakeholders plantedthe saplings on the occasion. This was followed by an extensive cleanlinessdrive – ‘shramdaan’ to spread the word about how a little effort from everyindividual can make a world of difference.

In sync with the seriesof events, Forest Range Officer Naseem Dhar delivered a speech to students andlocals, urging them to firmly vow for protection and preservation ofenvironment and develop a sense of belonging,” the spokesman said.

J&K SPCB observes World Environment Day:

J&K State PollutionControl Board in collaboration with 92.7 Big FM today observed WorldEnvironment day on the theme “Beat Air Pollution”.

The SPCB organised fourday door to door awareness campaign involving students from various schools tocreate awareness among common man regarding consequences of air pollutionbesides highlighting several small efforts that can be done to prevent furtherrise in air pollution. This awareness campaign covered about 2000 households.

Regional Director,J&K SPCB, Jammu, Dr. Syed Nadeem Hussain, appreciated the efforts ofstudents and encouraged them to carry on such campaigns. He stressed thatplanting more trees is directly linked to fresh air availability and reductionin dust pollution / toxic gases present in the air.

He called upon all citizens to work collectively towardscontrolling pollution thus ensuring availability of clean air for theposterity.

Later, the final event was celebrated at Rajinder Park wheregeneral public was involved in this awareness campaign through presentation ofNukkad Nataks on Air Pollution.

The event was culminated with distribution of certificatesof appreciation by Dr. Yashpaul Salgotra, Head Laboratories, J&K SPCB,Jammu among all the participating schools and students for making this campaigna grand success.
