Yasin Malik goes in hiding as police cracks down on Kashmir separatist leadership

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Yasin Malik has gone underground to evade arrest in view of shutdown called against “planned abrogation” of Article 35-A.

A JKLF spokesman said that police raided the Maisuma residence of Malik to arrest him last night.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat (G) and Hurriyat (M) chairmen, Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq have been placed under house arrest.

Hurriyat (M) leader and PPP chairman Hilal Ahmad War has also been placed under house arrest at his Maisuma residence.

Joint Resistance Leadership – an amalgam of separatist outfits has called for a two-day shutdown, beginning today, to protest against any move aimed at scrapping the Article 35 A, which bars outsiders from buying land in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
