Youth prevented from joining militancy: Police

Jammu Police issues statement to dispel 'misinformation' regarding death of person in custody

Police on Thursday said it prevented a youth from joining militancy in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

A statement said based on credible input from security agencies, police in Ganderbal apprehended the youth identified as Umar Nazir. “Preliminary investigation revealed that the subject was in constant touch over social media with some suspects in Bandipora and Pulwama and had developed tendency to join militancy ranks,” said the statement.

It said the arrested youth was properly counselled by police and later handed over to his parents.

“Community members and the youth’s parents have expressed gratitude to Ganderbal police for this kind gesture,” said the statement. “The youth are advised to be aware of such anti-national elements on various social media platforms that entice gullible Kashmiri youth to join militancy. The parents are also requested to come forward and report any such activity of their wards so that they are mainstreamed through proper counselling by experts.”
