District Road Safety Committee Meet Held at Kargil

Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Baseer ul Haq Choudhary today chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee at DC Office here.

Members of the Committee comprising Superintendent of Police Kargil Dr Vinod Kumar, Additional SP Kargil Khalid Amin, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer, Executive Engineer R&B II Kargil, Dy SP Traffic Kargil, ARTO Kargil, AD Information Kargil besides other concerned officers attended the meeting, an official handout said.

During the meeting, ARTO Kargil Khadim Hussain apprised the Committee about the status of the registration of vehicles in the district besides other key issues. The Deputy Commissioner, who is also the chairman of the District Road Safety Committee Kargil, while underlining the need to put in place an effective and workable road safety management system in the district stressed on the Committee members to take concrete measures in this regard.

The DC directed the Dy SP Traffic Kargil to identify blind spots on National Highway 1 from Drass to Hinaskot and propose corrective measures so that road accidents are minimized. He also directed the concerned officers to install crash barriers, speed breakers and rumble strips for better traffic regulation.

Regarding the establishment of trauma centres, the DC directed the CMO to properly functionalize the trauma centres at District Hospital Kargil and Community Health Centre Drass. He also asked the concerned to conduct mock drills to raise awareness about the functioning of trauma centres in case of road accidents. The DC also highlighted the need for a swift and responsive coordination mechanism among Police, Health Department, ARTO, SDMs and Tehsildars so as to ensure that road accident victims get prompt attention and medical care.     

He also desired that the set guidelines pertaining to safety measures to be followed by private school buses are implemented in letter and spirit. He also directed the CEO Kargil to conduct road safety awareness activities in schools like seminars, debate and painting competitions, nukkad nataks and similar kind of programmes for school children in all the Higher Secondary and High School particularly those located near the highways and major roads.

Meanwhile, the DC also directed for enhancement of the lifting charges of erroneously parked vehicles from present Rs 500 to Rs 2100.

He also directed the members to make coordinated efforts to ensure safety on roads and prompt emergency care.

Later, in a separate meeting the DC directed the Assistant Commissioner Development (ADC) Kargil Imteeaz Kacho to immediately kick start the process of comprehensive survey for formulation of plan for implementation of the Water Security and Sanitation Mission in the district. The DC asked the ADC to carry out the survey in rational manner with the involvement of AEEs, AEs, linemen, VLWs, Patwaris and other field functionaries.

The DC directed the concerned officers to ascertain the data with regard to the availability of commercial water supply connection of all the hotels, service stations, restaurants, institutes and other business establishments.
