District Road Safety Committee Meet Held at Kargil

Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Baseer ul Haq Choudhary today chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee at DC Office here.

Members of the Committee comprising Superintendent of PoliceKargil Dr Vinod Kumar, Additional SP Kargil Khalid Amin, Chief Medical Officer,Chief Education Officer, Executive Engineer R&B II Kargil, Dy SP TrafficKargil, ARTO Kargil, AD Information Kargil besides other concerned officersattended the meeting, an official handout said.

   

During the meeting, ARTO Kargil Khadim Hussain apprised theCommittee about the status of the registration of vehicles in the districtbesides other key issues. The Deputy Commissioner, who is also the chairman ofthe District Road Safety Committee Kargil, while underlining the need to put inplace an effective and workable road safety management system in the districtstressed on the Committee members to take concrete measures in this regard.

The DC directed the Dy SP Traffic Kargil to identify blindspots on National Highway 1 from Drass to Hinaskot and propose correctivemeasures so that road accidents are minimized. He also directed the concernedofficers to install crash barriers, speed breakers and rumble strips for bettertraffic regulation.

Regarding the establishment of trauma centres, the DCdirected the CMO to properly functionalize the trauma centres at DistrictHospital Kargil and Community Health Centre Drass. He also asked the concernedto conduct mock drills to raise awareness about the functioning of traumacentres in case of road accidents. The DC also highlighted the need for a swiftand responsive coordination mechanism among Police, Health Department, ARTO,SDMs and Tehsildars so as to ensure that road accident victims get promptattention and medical care.     

He also desired that the set guidelines pertaining to safetymeasures to be followed by private school buses are implemented in letter andspirit. He also directed the CEO Kargil to conduct road safety awarenessactivities in schools like seminars, debate and painting competitions, nukkadnataks and similar kind of programmes for school children in all the HigherSecondary and High School particularly those located near the highways andmajor roads.

Meanwhile, the DC also directed for enhancement of thelifting charges of erroneously parked vehicles from present Rs 500 to Rs 2100.

He also directed the members to make coordinated efforts toensure safety on roads and prompt emergency care.

Later, in a separate meeting the DC directed the AssistantCommissioner Development (ADC) Kargil Imteeaz Kacho to immediately kick startthe process of comprehensive survey for formulation of plan for implementationof the Water Security and Sanitation Mission in the district. The DC asked theADC to carry out the survey in rational manner with the involvement of AEEs,AEs, linemen, VLWs, Patwaris and other field functionaries.

The DC directed the concerned officers to ascertain the datawith regard to the availability of commercial water supply connection of allthe hotels, service stations, restaurants, institutes and other businessestablishments.
