The first-ever plantation drive was held at the Kargil campus of the University of Kashmir.
The day-long drive was led by Dr MS Sumbli, rector, Kargil campus, and attended by teaching faculty, non-teaching staff and students of the institution.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sumbli said the plantation drive was aimed at raising awareness about the need to plant more trees for greener and cleaner environs.
Several tree saplings were planted on the occasion.
Dr Sumbli said academic institutions have a greater role to play in educating the society about protection of environment.
He thanked faculty, officials and students of the campus for their active participation in the plantation drive. Such activities would continue in the campus in future as well, Dr Sumbli said.
