Leh town gets its first solarized public toilet

District administration, Leh  with the support of NGOs has set up public toilets conjoined with cafes at two important locations in Leh town.

Deputy commissioner Leh, Avny Lavasa said, “These solarized buildings have been built in an eco friendly way, using local architectural method with insulated walls and mud plaster. The toilets have been designed to function throughout the year. Besides, a ramp access has also been provided to make it differently abled friendly. The main purpose of setting up of these toilets is to change the common perception that public toilets are poorly maintained, unhygienic and not feasible to keep them functional during winter months especially in the region like Ladakh, where temperatures dip below freezing point.”
