A plantation drive was organised at the Leh campus of the University of Kashmir.
The day-long drive, organised by the rector Leh campus in collaboration with the department of forests, was held to educate various stakeholders about the importance of plantation and the need to conserve forests and other natural resources.
The drive was inaugurated by senior superintendent of police Leh, Sargun Shukla, IPS, who was the chief guest on the occasion.
In her address, Shukla highlighted the importance of plantation and underscored the pressing need to conserve natural resources for future generations.
Rector Leh campus Prof. Farooq Ahmed Khan highlighted the aims and objectives of the programme and assured that such events would continue at the Leh campus in future.
He said educational institutions have a far greater role to play than anyone else in undertaking measures to protect forests and natural resources. Prof Khan thanked Shukla and Harpeet Kaur, DFO, for collaborating with the satellite campus Leh and making the programme successful.
