Army soldier, militant killed in shootout in south Kashmir’s Pulwama

An army soldier and a militant were killed and another wounded in a brief gunfight in Kamrazipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday, reports said.

Official sources told news agency GNS that during the initial exchange of fire, one army man was killed another injured. They said the injured soldier was evacuated to 92 Base hospital in Srinagar for further treatment.

   

Reports said the exchange of fire took place after a joint team of the police, Army’s 53 RR and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Kamrazipora after receiving inputs about the presence of militants.

Later, during the searches in the area a militant’s body was recovered from the shootout site. “Op Kamrazipora, Pulwama . Update. One militant killed. One AK along with grenades, pouches & other war like stores recovered. One soldier laid down his life in the line of duty. Search operation is in progress,” said an army spokesman.

The identity of the slain militant was not immediately known.
