Deputy commissioner Shopian Dr Owais Ahmad on Wednesdayasked the people of the district to carry out their routine activities as usualas the imposition of section 144 was mainly related to poll day.
Responding to a news report about the imposition of section144 in the area, Ahmad told Greater Kashmir that it was a routine process and aprecautionary measure invoked during election period and particularly on thepoll days.
“It is mainly related to unauthorised assembly ofpeople and use of loud speakers other than for religious affairs,” hesaid.
There is nothing like people are prohibited to venture outof their homes, he said, maintaining that it will no way affect the publiclife.
He said that all the schools and colleges in the area willfunction normally.
An official spokesman in a statement had earlier said thatDistrict Magistrate Shopian has ordered imposition of Section 144 for a periodof one month starting from May 3.
