Gunfight breaks out after militants attack CRPF party in Pantha Chowk

A gunfight broke out between militants and the security forces in Pantha Chowk area on the outskirts of Srinagar.

Reports said a joint team of Police, Army’s 20 and 50 RR and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation at Dobey Mohalla and closely connected Khanday Mohalla.

   

As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter.

A senior police officer confirmed that an exchange of fire took place. As per the sources, three militants are believed to be trapped.

Earlier, three bike-borne militants had attacked a joint team of police and CRPF near Panthachowk in which no damage was done, officials said.
