Man buried under landslide in J&K’s Mendhar

A young man died after coming under a landslide while several cattle are feared dead after a shed collapsed in separate incidents in Mendhar area of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said today.

A police official said that 35-year-old Mohammad Shokit son of Mohammad Hussain resident of Kallar Mora Mendhar was buried under the debris of a landslide in Gola Nari Dhok in Kotli area.

   

“His body was later removed from the debris by locals of the area,” he said.

The official said that a cattle shed located in Sangiote village of Mendhar collapsed on Wednesday morning, as a result of which several animals were trapped under the debris of the shed.

“Locals are making attempts to rescue the animals safely out of debris,” he said.

A local said that around half a dozen cattle, mostly buffaloes, are buried under the debris and their death could cause a major loss to the owner.
