A militant was killed in a brief shootout with the security forces in Watergam area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday.
News agency GNS reported that the militants fired at apatrolling party of the army’s 32 RR in Watergam.
A senior police officer said that the army patrolling partywas passing through the area when hiding militants fired upon them, triggeringa brief exchange of fire.
The officer further said that in this exchange of fire onemilitant was killed.
Quoting sources, it said that one pistol and three grenadeswere recovered from the slain militant. However, the identity of the slainmilitant was yet to he ascertained.
While this report was being filed searches were still goingon in the area.
