Mobile Internet suspended in Kashmir for several hours on August 15

Authorities on Saturday suspended the Internet service on mobile phones in Kashmir for several hours. However, the broadband services were not affected by the ban.

The suspension of services was applicable to all service providers, including state-run BSNL in the valley. The service was suspended around 6 am and was restored around noon.

Authorities have been following the practice of suspending the mobile Internet, phone and SMS services on August 15 for many years.

The officials have been maintaining that the step to bar phone services is being taken to prevent militants from triggering remote-controlled explosive devices through the mobile phone.
